How To Walk Past Chocolate 4-Week Series

Alison Ross, LMFT, the Founder of Center for Eating Recovery will be teaching four welcoming and supportive eating psychology classes. Each class offers a mindfulness-based approach to developing a positive body image and a healthy relationship with food. These workshops are adapted from the Heal the Hungry BrainTM program. Classes will meet on the following dates:

  1. The Stress-Craving Connection, Part 1 – February 22
  2. The Stress-Craving Connection, Part 2 – March 1
  3. Overeating is Not Human Nature – March 8
  4. The Case for Loving Your Body – March 15

#1 The Stress-Craving Connection, Part 1

Thursday 2/22/18, 7-8:30pm

Learn about the stress response and how chronic stress triggers craving states, setting you up for eating, weight and health problems. Identify signs of stress and learn simple mindfulness and self-regulation practices that directly reduce stress- and emotional-eating patterns and support your health goals.


#2 The Stress-Craving Connection, Part 2

Thursday 3/1/18 7-8:30pm

Practice the skills you learned in Part 1, and go deeper as you learn to self-regulate before daily stress drives you to use food or other substances to cope. Learn how to mine craving states for important information about the self-care you need. Melt away stress, aggravation, craving states and avoid using food or other substances to cope as you learn to pause, decode the message and take a thoughtful next-action.


#3 Overeating is Not Human Nature

Thursday 3/8/18 7-8:30pm

Infants teach us that overeating is not human nature. Babies cry for food when their stomachs are empty, and lose interest in food when their tummies are full. All living beings possess an innate hunger and weight regulating system that prevents under- and over-eating and maintains a healthy weight. But something in modern life disrupts this system, leaving many people vulnerable to overeating and weight struggles. In this workshop, learn about what disrupts the hunger and weight regulating system. And discover two practices that can restore it.
 


#4 The Case for Loving Your Body

Thursday 3/15/18 7-8:30pm

Constant worry about weight, size, shape and appearance is a form of chronic stress that can trigger the negative effects of stress, and set you up for emotional- and stress-eating. In this workshop, learn about the surprising connection between worrying about your body and health, eating and weight. And learn how to cultivate more peace and positivity about your body as a way to reduce unhealthy eating habits and foster a healthier lifestyle.

Alison Ross, LMFT is a licensed psychotherapist specializing in eating and body image. She is the founder of Center for Eating Recovery where she offers a popular coaching program called Heal the Hungry BrainTM that stops unhealthy eating habits including yo-yo dieting, emotional eating and food addiction and helps clients to develop a positive body image and find and maintain a healthy weight.
